Visit Those In Prison.

Anamosa State Penitentiary stands as a formidable fortress of security on N High Street. Cold but stately, like an old Gothic mansion, its barred windows, large limestone walls and enclosed guard towers reassure the public that it has the authority to maintain order and obedience amongst its human occupants. Each week brings the satisfaction of spiritual connection with people who happen to be currently incarcerated.

The USA has the world’s highest rate of imprisonment at 724 people per 100,000, as cited by the International Centre for Prison Studies (2019). While the USA represents approximately 4.4% of the world’s population, it houses approximately 22% of the world’s prisoners.

These statistics do not include all those who have completed juvenile or adult sentences and are now back in society’s mainstream. Perhaps you know someone, or are related to someone, who has been or is currently involved with the criminal justice system in America.
